Upon browsing the shelves of the culinary section of my school library, I saw a large, textbook-esque paperback cookbook, called The American History Cookbook, by Mark H. Zanger. I picked it up, thinking that it would be interesting to flip through. If you were wondering why the book is so large (a whopping 460 pages), it’s because this text contains recipes from 1200 to 1975. I actually refer to it as the Gretchen Weiner’s Hair book, if you get the reference.
The American History Cookbook is very informative and manages to keep my attention, despite being 460 pages. It has accurate graphics and gives the backstory to each recipe, which are categorized by sections like the Cold War or School Lunches. I am very excited to try out the recipes in The American History Cookbook and learning more about the daily diets of Americans throughout the years. I highly recommend this book for anybody interested in learning unique recipes and finding out more about American cuisine and how it evolved over time. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of The American History Cookbook, I have included the link below.
